In this episode, we explore one of America’s most haunting cold cases: The Boy in the Box — an unidentified child whose body was discovered in 1957 in a wooded area of Philadelphia. Despite national attention, countless tips, and decades of investigation, the child’s identity and the truth of what happened to him remained a mystery for over 60 years. Northern State Hospital once stood as Washington State’s largest psychiatric institution, housing thousands of patients during the early 20th century. Built to ease overcrowding at other mental hospitals, it quickly became a self-contained world—complete with farms, workshops, and staff housing. But behind its peaceful valley setting lay stories of overcrowding, experimental treatments, and neglect. Today, the abandoned grounds are known as much for their eerie atmosphere as for their tragic past.

In this episode, we explore the disturbing and tragic case of Andre Thomas, a Texas man whose crimes shocked the nation and raised serious questions about mental illness, religious delusions, and the death penalty. Thomas claimed he was carrying out God’s will when he brutally murdered his wife and two young children in 2004. His actions didn’t end there—while in jail, he mutilated himself, reinforcing concerns that his mind was deeply fractured long before the killings occurred.
